Mineral Casting VMCs That Hold Accuracy Over Years, Not Months

The GL855, GL1160, GL1270 and GL1580 are vertical machining centers built around mineral cast iron beds and columns. Mineral casting soaks up vibration better than grey cast iron and moves far less when shop temperature shifts, so you get cleaner surfaces and dimensions that stay put through a long shift.

All three axes run water-cooled ball screw nuts. That keeps screw thermal elongation under control instead of letting it stack up over the day. Add a BT40 spindle at 12000 r/min, a 24-tool ATC and low-friction linear guideways, and you have a machine set up for repeat work rather than one-off jobs.

  • Z travel: 550–800 mm
  • Worktable: 1000×550 – 1700×800 mm
  • Spindle motor: 11/15 kW, BT40, 12000 r/min

Highlights
Key Advantages
  • Mineral cast iron bed and column cut vibration at the source, which shows up as better surface finish and less chatter on deep pockets and thin walls.
  • Water-cooled nuts on all three axes limit screw thermal growth, so dimensions stay consistent from the first part of the morning to the last part of the night shift.
  • BT40 spindle at 12000 r/min with an 11/15 kW motor covers everything from aluminium to mild steel without swapping machines.
  • 24-tool ATC keeps non-cutting time short on jobs with several operations, so one fixture can run through drilling, tapping and milling in a single cycle.
  • Linear guideways with a low friction coefficient mean less stick-slip at slow feed rates and predictable accuracy over years of production.
Use Cases
Applications
  • Mould and die work where surface finish and cavity tolerances are tight
  • Automotive brackets, housings and powertrain parts in batch production
  • Aerospace structural and engine components in aluminium and harder alloys
  • General machinery parts, jigs and fixtures that need repeatable positioning

Detailed Description

Product Features: The bed and column are made of mineral castings, whose thermal stability and damping and vibration reduction performance are far superior to those of gray cast iron; the three-axis nuts are water-cooled, which effectively suppresses thermal elongation of the screw and reduces the superimposed amount of screw thermal deformation; the castings plus the three-axis water-cooling design provide better long-term accuracy retention of the equipment; greatly improve machining accuracy and machining efficiency; the linear guide rail has a small friction coefficient, long service life, and more durable precision. Models: GL855/GL1160/GL1270/GL1580; three-axis travel X 800-1300mm, Y 550-800mm, Z 550-800mm; worktable 1000x550-1700x800mm; spindle motor 11/15kw, speed 12000r/min; BT40 spindle, tool magazine capacity 24 tools.

FAQ
FAQ
Which model fits my part — GL855, GL1160, GL1270 or GL1580?
Start with the largest workpiece you plan to run. If your part plus fixture needs more than 800 mm in X, step up from the GL855. The GL1580 tops the range at 1300 mm X travel and a 1700×800 mm table, which suits bigger, heavier castings. Send us a drawing and we will confirm table capacity and spindle clearance before you order.
Mineral casting instead of grey cast iron — what does that actually change on the floor?
Two things you notice in daily use. First, damping: mineral casting absorbs vibration, so you get fewer chatter marks on deep cavities and thin sections. Second, thermal behaviour: it reacts much less to ambient temperature swings, so you are not chasing offsets after the shop warms up in the afternoon.
Can I use my existing BT40 holders?
Yes. BT40 is a standard taper, so collet chucks, end mill holders, shell mill arbors and drill chucks you already own will fit. Just check holder weight and length against the ATC capacity if you run large face mills.
How long is delivery?
Typically 45 to 60 days after order confirmation. That varies with configuration — controller, chip conveyor and fourth-axis prep all affect scheduling. Ask sales for the current lead time on your exact spec.
What testing happens before the machine ships?
Each unit goes through assembly checks, geometric accuracy inspection, spindle run-out measurement and dynamic performance runs. A quality inspection report ships with the machine so you have the numbers on file.
